New Zealand singing sensation Hayley
Westenra will return to Shrewsbury Abbey for a sell-out
concert tonight.
The 18-year-old wowed a packed audience at the Abbey
in an earlier performance last month, and bosses
at the abbey said they are looking forward to tonight’s
show.
Abbey spokeswoman Gillian Keates said she was thrilled
the teenager, whose debut album Pure topped the UK
classical charts and entered at number eight in the
pop charts, was returning for a second concert.
“This is a real coup, we’re absolutely
delighted,”
she said.
“This is the only venue on her tour that she
has agreed to return to and I am over the moon. It
has been a lot of hard work, but it has been worth
it.”
Mrs Keates said she was hoping the show would have
a real Christmas feel, with the abbey fully decorated
and plenty of festive cheer among visitors.
