KATHERINE JENKINS has joined an elite group of
singing superstars.
Charlotte
Church made headlines in 1998 when she struck a
six-figure, five-album deal with Sony when she was just
12 years old.
Her
debut album, Voice of an Angel, went platinum
and the follow-ups were also a success.
International
bass baritone Bryn Terfel has a five-year deal
with Deutsche Grammophon, an arm of Universal Classics,
and his last release of classical favourites, simply
entitled Bryn, was released last autumn.
He
collaborated with a number of artists, including Andrea
Bocelli, and the album topped the classical charts
- and reached number four in the pop charts.
New
Zealander Hayley Westenra, still only 16, has
the fastest-selling classical album of all time. In
just under six months, Pure has sold 720,000
copies.
