The 19-year-old New Zealand singer, UNICEF ambassador and
international classical music superstar, performed from the members' enclosure
at the July course for thousands of punters.
They had enjoyed the second day of the July meeting before
turning their attention to a free concert from a singer who has sung for Tony
Blair, President George Bush and the Queen.
She was accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra
for an hour-long show straight after the last race of the day.
The audience sat on the
members' lawn and some brought picnics and chairs to give the racecourse a "stately home" feel
for the evening.
The concert and the day's racing was sponsored by Classic
FM.
Gaynor Haxby, a spokeswoman
for Newmarket Racecourse, said: "It
was wonderful evening for everyone and Hayley was fantastic.
"She is a real talent
and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves.
"It capped off another
fantastic day's racing at Newmarket races."
